It has been decades since that of Dave Mustaine and James Hetfield worked together creating music. Much has been said over the years regarding Mustaine being kicked out of Metallica – but Dave has also been vocal about how much he likes the guys and how he admires James’ craft.
So could you imagine, whether it was this year or sometime in the near future – could you imagine Dave and James collaborating together to create new music? Because Mustaine would like that.
During a recent conversation with Andrew Daly of Vinyl Writer Music, Daly brings up to Mustaine how the Megadeth frontman has gone through a lot, and asks what Mustaine owes his longevity to? While Dave does speak to his longevity, he ends talking about how he has secretly been hoping to collaborate with James Hetfield. This is what Mustaine had to say:
“I have been secretly hoping there’d be a day where James [Hetfield] and I can write together again. I think the world really does want us to do that, and I think there is a pretty good possibility of it happening down the line. I do think that it’s possible that one day James is going to come around and that he and I are going to be able to do something together again. I guess that’s one of the things that has always kept me pushing forward. I think it’d be good for Megadeth, and it could be great for Metallica too.”
What makes the idea of this so wildly exciting to us is that it teeters on the edge of being an old school Metallica reunion of sorts. Both Dave and James were original members of Metallica, and while Dave has Megadeth, it is surreal to imagine a world where there is a Metallica that still features Mustaine; but if Dave’s secret hope were to ever come to light, then we’d get music that reflects what a modern day version of that fantasy might sound like.
