During a recent conversation with Full Metal Jackie, drummer Dave Lombardo was asked about the politics he and his band Dead Cross explore throughout their music.
If you have listened to Dead Cross in the past, then you already have an idea where the band reside on the political spectrum. But in case you are not aware – the band have put a single titled “Reign of Error,” which provided some strong commentary regarding the recent Supreme Court abortion ruling. Referring to this song and bands tackling political subject matter, Jackie asks Dave, “Why is controversy an exhilarating and scary artistic vehicle?”
To this point, Lombardo speaks to his love of punk music, and how punk and politics go hand in hand. He says how when the band see something that upsets them, they want to use their art to express frustrations. Here is exactly what Dave Lombardo had to say (as transcribed by Loudwire):
“Punk and politics go hand in hand and two of the members — Justin Pearson and Mike Crane — are the epicenter of the San Diego and Los Angeles punk scene, in my opinion. I’ve always loved that style of music, so it’s just one of those things you can’t hide from. It’s in our faces and we get upset at some things that we hear on television. This style of music allows us to vent our frustrations, so I’m lucky to be in a band like this. If there is anything that pisses us off, we’re out writing a song about it.”
We are beyond excited for the release of the new Dead Cross record (which will be out on October 28th). Earlier today, Dead Cross released another new political song, that being “Christian Missile Crisis.” You can check out the music video for “Reign of Error” below, and you can now pre-order the band’s upcoming album, titled II, via this link here.
