Fear Factory mastermind Dino Cazares posted a statement to the band’s Facebook page yesterday, seemingly in response to some flak he’s received from eager fans who want to know who the new Fear Factory singer will be. Fear Factory and long-time singer Burton C. Bell of course went their separate ways a few years back, but not without a seemingly messy sounding split. At the time, Burton said:

“I consider myself a private person, preferring to keep my personal business to myself and trusted loved ones. I make my public statements with thoughtful intent, never deviating from the truth, in spite of the consistent series of dishonest representations and unfounded accusations from past and present band members; a toxic drama I choose to not be part of.

The past several years have been profoundly agonizing, with these members bleeding my passion with depraved deceit. As a direct consequence of their greed, these three have dragged me through the unjust, judicial system, resulting in the legal attrition that has financially crippled me. In the end, these three members have taken possession of my principal livelihood. However, they will never take my 30-year legacy as the beating heart of the machine. A legacy that no other member, past or present, can ever claim.”

While there has been some public back and forth in the years since the split, this is the message that was posted to Fear Factory’s Facebook this week by Dino:

People make it seem like right after our vocalist quit in 2020 that FF immediately found a replacement, THAT IS NOT THE CASE !!!
It took over a year to find someone, and then when we did find that someone you have to work together to make sure your styles and ideas are compatible or that we just simply get along etc.. There’s a lot that goes into this.
FF is not going to just pick anyone without going through a trial period. It wouldn’t be good to find out a year from now to realize you don’t get along or that it’s just not working out.
It’s not smart to rush things and prematurely release new music cause in order for this to work it has to be done right.
It’s like you falling in love to fast, 6 months later you both get married ,then you move in together and realize you made a mistake by rushing into the relationship that ends in a divorce.

Responding to comments on the post, Dino went on to say the following about Burton:

“With all due respect to Burton but he lost the magic live long ago, he just couldn’t carry a clean note anymore. On record it’s been studio magic and I think that’s what your going to miss. The vocal studio magic is like a girl using filters on her face for her Instagram photos.”
Sounds like we’ll have to just wait a little longer for news on what Fear Factory 2.0 will look and sound like.
