While Rob Zombie has made his fair share of horror movies (and now it looks like romantic comedies with his Munsters movie), the horror-rocker was once considered to work on a Punisher film! Imagine a world where Rob was part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that would be pretty sick!
This news comes from the actor Thomas Jane, who played Frank Castle/the Punisher in the 2004 movie The Punisher. During a conversation at this year’s Fanboy Expo, Jane brought up a couple ideas that had come up involving a sequel to the 2004 movie, and how one of them involved Rob Zombie.
This is what Jane had to say about the Rob Zombie-Punisher idea (as transcribed by MovieWeb):
“There were a couple of iterations of Punisher 2. One of them was with Rob Zombie directing, which I thought would have been interesting. But that was one iteration. We were batting around script ideas and trying to find a new director. The Marvel folks wanted to go with a different director, and that was their choice, so it was like, ‘Who is that person going to be?'”
Would you have been interested in Zombie directing a Marvel movie? Do you think he would be a good fit for the Punisher, or is there another character you would like to see him lend his filmmaking talents to? We think a Rob Zombie Ghost Rider movie would be pretty awesome.
In other Rob Zombie related news, have you ever wondered what his most profitable movie might be? We recently shared a breakdown that looks at all his major motion pictures, confirming the film of his that has made the most money. We also shared a really awesome video that features the rocker showing off his own personal horror memorabilia collection (featuring items from his own movies).
