Legendary Swedish Metal band At the Gates have had a rocky past few weeks with the sudden dismissal of guitarist Jonas Stålhammar just a few weeks before they’re set to embark on a much anticipated (and long-delayed) anniversary tour for Slaughter of the Soul. The band will be hitting North America for what was originally supposed to be the 25th anniversary of the seminal album, but had to push it back for two years due to COVID-19.
Jonas Stålhammar joined At the Gates on second guitar back in 2017 and played on To Drink From The Night Itself and The Nightmare of Being. Unfortunately, he was abruptly removed from the band a few weeks ago after he was accused of alleged inappropriate sexual actions on social media. The band offered little detail except for this statement: “At the Gates have chosen to part ways with guitar player Jonas Stålhammar. We are currently working to find a replacement for the upcoming shows.”
It’s not clear if Patrik is joining At the Gates permanently, but we’d have to imagine that he’s at least joining them for their North American jaunt since it’s coming up so quickly. Wacken was likely a warm up gig (and quite the gig at that). You can watch fan footage of the set below.
And before you go back to doom scrolling on your social media app of choice, watch the interview below we did with Tomas Lindberg where he talks about his legacy in Death Metal & Hardcore + more.
