Anthrax and Pantera are often spoken in the same sentence these days. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re aware that Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante is going to be filling in on drums for the late Vinnie Paul on the upcoming Pantera ‘reunion’ tour that the Pantera social media accounts finally officially started teasing over the weekend.

Fans are of course split over Rex and Phil’s decision to have some of the Cowboys from Hell ride once again sans Dimebag and Vinnie.

Charlie’s long-time bandmate recently defended the drummer, stating:

“Look, we’ve done a lot of touring with Pantera in our day. We were family. You have to understand, Anthrax and Pantera, we were very much a family. Dime played on a few of our records. We were very, very close to these guys, so Charlie also had a really close relationship with Dime and Vinnie. And we all did, we all did.

They got the right guy. If there’s one guy to play drums, who’ll play them the right way, the way it should be — and I think Vinnie would say this too, rest his soul. We were very, very close with these guys. This will be like another family member joining them and paying tribute to these guys.”

Anyways, this past weekend was the birthday of the late, great Dimebag Darrell. He would’ve been 56 years old. In tribute to him, Anthrax busted out a pretty spot on (albeit short) cover of ‘Domination’

Anthrax , Hatebreed and Black Label Society are all out on the road together for another few days. Make sure to catch one of the remaining dates if they’re coming near you, after you watch their ‘Domination’ jam below:
