A couple months ago, Igor Cavalera mentioned that he would be down for a Sepultura reunion. Earlier this year, he and his brother, Max Cavalera, hit the road for the Return Beneath Arise Tour; during this tour, the brothers played songs off of the Sepultura albums Arise and Beneath The Remains.

During a recent conversation we had with Max, we asked him his thoughts regarding such a reunion. We mentioned what his brother said – how much fun his brother had playing those older Sepultura songs alongside him and how Igor would be down for a reunion. This is what Max had to say regarding a theoretical Sepultura reunion:

“Yeah, I don’t agree with that myself. I don’t think we need it. I think that the way we did it was just awesome. I mean, if it happens, it happens. I think that’s more kind of my attitude [towards the idea], but I’m not, you know, forcing [it]. I loved the way we did it and I loved the way it was presented [and] the way we played [the music]. Not sure [about the idea of a reunion]; there’s a lot that comes with that ’cause there’s a lot  of ears [and] a lot of stuff being said and this and that. But, myself, I mean, I even said in a couple shows ‘This is the real Sepultura.’ And I back that. That’s how it feels like. I mean, I started the band with Igor – and I know the other guys were part of it for a long time – but yeah, I don’t really agree with that. I don’t think we need it. I think this is killer the way it is.”

Would you like to see Sepultura reunite with Igor on drums and Max fronting the band? And ICYMI: We had a much larger conversation with Max regarding the new Soulfly album Totem (out today). We talked about what it is like for him to be touring with his family, some of his favorite bands in the scene today, and more.
