Earlier today news came out that Pantera – featuring Phil Anselmo, Rex Brown, Zakk Wylde, and Charlie Benante – would be playing their first show together this year.

The band will be taking part in Knotfest: South America! Pantera will be performing in several shows that are part of Knotfest: South America, playing in Brazil, Chile, and Columbia. To further highlight this exciting return, over on the Pantera social media channels, a hype video has been released.

This video features footage of the late Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, along with random footage of fans. Audio can be heard of people chanting “Pantera!” The following text is also provided: “For the brothers, for the fans, for the legacy.”

This statement speaks to the idea that these shows are meant as a means of honor the late Abbot brothers and those who are hardcore fans of Pantera. Via an interview with The Pit, band singer Phil Anselmo shared that, “I think Dime and Vince, I know Dime and Vince would want the legacy and the name of Pantera to go on and on and on and in everybody’s damn face. I know that for sure. Absa-fucking-utely dude, that would be their biggest dream.”

Do you think the brothers would want these shows to take place? Ex-Cannibal Corpse singer Chris Barnes shared a pretty not so subtle opinion about these shows sometime ago. Justin Hakwins of The Darkness also reflected on the initial announcement of the band touring, and considering the drama that took place among the band members, shared some thoughts on whether these shows should take place or not. Someone who is very excited for these concerts is that of Avenged Sevenfold singer M. Shadows.

At the time of this writing, the three South American dates are the only Pantera-related dates to be announced; as more dates and shows become announced, we will keep you posted! You can check out this hype video for yourself below.
