Via an exclusive video from Revolver, Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor shares his 11 personal favorite metal drummers. Brann speaks to a variety of amazing drummers, from that of Black Sabbath’s Bill Ward, to Slayer’s Dave Lombardo.

A shoutout we found particularly awesome is that of the late Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison. While talking about Joey, Brann Dailor talks about how he got to know the band through a tour they were on together back in the day; speaking about Joey, he says, “I became good friends with Joey right off the bat. We’re just kind of cut from the same cloth. [We] had grown up around the same time period; [we] were into a lot of the same things, a lot of the same music, movies, all that good stuff. […] I watched him play every night, and [I was] like, ‘Jesus, this guy is just insane.”

Another shout out that is cool is that of Tool’s Danney Carey. In talking about Danny’s drumming, Brann shares, “When Opiate came out, I remember hearing that and thinking that the drums really stood out to me. [… Danny is] well trained. There’s something going on there that’s different from what the other kids are doing.”

You can hear what else Brann had to say about Joey, Danny, and the other nine drummers via the video below. Who are your all-time favorite metal drummers?
