For those of you who grew up in the ’90s and early 2000s, you may remember (and have played) the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater video games. For a lot of folks, the Pro Skater franchise not only made for great skateboarding video games, but also served as an incredible gateway to discover music.
Bands such as Primus, Anthrax, Bad Religion, Powerman 5000, and many more were featured on these video game soundtracks; so when it comes to the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater cover band “The 900,” they are specifically covering the songs found on these soundtracks! (Fun side note: The band’s name, The 900, is a reference to the iconic skateboarding move that Tony Hawk famously pulled off).
Per the band’s Facebook page, they share that they are “The UK’s first and only Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater cover band! Playing all the bangers from THPS1 to Ame.” The band recently played a special live show in London and the skateboarding legend himself showed up!
The crowd lost their minds when Tony Hawk appeared on stage. The professional skateboarder got on stage to perform the Goldfinger song “Superman” with the band. It looks like an incredible evening, and frankly, we wish we could have been there! Below we have included several videos of The 900’s performance with Tony Hawk for you to check out.
Did you grow up playing the Tony Hawk video games? Which one is your favorite? Did these games introduce you to any new music?
