Apparently there has been a lot of metal being played on the set of Stranger Things, for the actor who plays Vecna recently shared that he listened to black metal to get into his character. Vecna, played by Jamie Campbell Bower, is the big bad villain of Stranger Things season four. Via a conversation on Kyle Meredith With…, Bower spoke to the bands he listened to and that helped him get into character.
As transcribed by Consequence, Bower shared:
“When I was prepping for Vecna, to get into Vecna, I would use a lot of bands like Sun 0))), Carpathian Forest, Darkthrone, Mayhem. A lot of black metal kind of stuff that I just really latched onto and thought, ‘Wow, this is great.’ There’s also something about the sensitivity in the way black metal is made and their belief system which I really fucking vibe with.”
Damn Bower, those are some seriously heavy acts. Vecna is a terrifying villain, so it would probably take some really dark music to get into the mindset of such a character. What do you think of the bands Bower listened to? Fellow Stranger Things actor Joe Quinn also listened to a lot of heavy metal to prepare for his role in the show.
But speaking of heavy metal and Stranger Things – spoilers ahead – have you heard how the Metallica song “Master of Puppets” makes a cameo in the show? On top of that, Kirk Hammett and the son of Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo assisted with the performance of that cameo!
Due to “Master of Puppets” appearing in Stranger Things, the song has also gone viral lately. Given the mainstream popularity of Stranger Things, we wonder if the Metallica cameo may get more folks into metal. That would be really fucking cool! If you are watching the latest season of Stranger Things, have you picked up all the heavy metal Easter eggs?
