The YouTube channel Moonic Productions (which is ran by Otu) has uploaded a new video where he takes the classic Nirvana song “Come As You Are” and performs it in the style of Korn. Grunge and nu metal were dominating forces in the 1990s, so this makes for one hell of a musical mashup. We have covered Otu’s work in the past when we wrote about him mashing up that of Limp Bizkit and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song.
This nu metal remix brings a fun upbeat and funk sound to the Nirvana song. Otu even provides vocals in a Jonathan Davis-like presentation, and they sound real smooth alongside that of the track’s instrumental tone. While the two genres involve different technical elements, the music of grunge and nu metal each offer a similar angsty mood that, when done right, can blend well together. You can check out Otu’s Nirvana and Korn mashup below.
Nirvana and Korn mashup
What are your thoughts on this mashup? Do you think the revamped nu metal mix of “Come As You Are” is better than the original version of the song? Another one of Otu’s recent mashups we think is pretty cool is that of “If Sleep wrote ‘Oops!…I Did It Again'” (the Britney Spears song). You can check out that mashup below:
Speaking of Korn and other hit songs, the nu metal giants teamed up with Slipknot to cover a Beastie Boys song in the past. Korn will also be hitting the road soon with that of Evanescence! You can find all the North American tour dates and locations below:
