It has been 36 years since Metallica released Master of Puppets upon the world, and the self-titled track now has an official lyric video! But this isn’t just any ordinary lyric video – it is an animated one! The animation behind the “Master of Puppets” lyric video was done by ILOVEDUST.
“Master of Puppets” has been getting a lot of extra attention and love lately – which is very much so because of its recent cameo in Stranger Things season four. Towards the end of season four, Eddie Munson (played by Joe Quinn), performs the iconic thrash track; this Metallica song cameo not only made for an incredible heavy metal moment within the show, but has also introduced lots of folks to the music of Metallica.
What made this cameo even more special is that Tye Trujillo, the son of Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, actually performed part of the song and assisted Quinn (Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett also assisted). In a recent interview, Tye spoke to his work on Stranger Things; and with all the new fans Metallica has made, they have made sure to share with others that everyone is welcomed into the Metallica family.
In other fun Stranger Things related news, Trivium singer Matt Heafy recently collaborated with YouTuber Anthony Vincent for a mash-up of Metallica meets Kate Bush. Along with “Master of Puppets” getting a lot of attention, the hit Kate Bush song “Running Up That Hill” has also gotten a lot of love. With that in mind, Heafy and YouTubers Anthony Vincent and Steve Terreberry decided to re-create “Running Up That Hill,” but in the style of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets.” It is a banger remix!
