Maynard James Keenan, Scott Ian and famed metal-loving comedian, Brian Posehn, may seem like a super weird combination of collaborators on a song. And, as we just typed that out, we agree- it IS a super weird combo of artists. However, there’s a bit more context behind what brought the 3 of them together back in the early 2000’s in the band Titannica.

Let’s fist taken another turn for a second and jersey-slide on over to actor Bob Odenkirk (now known to most as Saul Goodman of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul fame). Way before he broke big (and bad), Bob was a pivotal part of the short-lived late 90’s sketch comedy show on HBO called Mr. Show. And that’s where the origins of this bizarre “supergroup” first begin. Brian Posehn wrote a skit on the show about a fake band called Titannica, featuring David Cross (later of Arrested Development fame).

After Mr. Show’s demise, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross teamed up a few years later for an insane sounding straight to home video movie called Run, Ronnie, Run!

The plot of Run, Ronnie, Run! was as follows: “A redneck with an uncanny knack for getting arrested becomes the star of his own reality program.” Easy sell, right?

Anyways… Run, Ronnie, Run! had a soundtrack, and that’s where our heroes return. Maynard, Scott, Brian and more wrote the fantastically titled track, ‘Ass Kickin Fat Kid’, for the movie as the group Titannica.

Listen to Titannica’s ‘Ass Kickin Fat Kid’ in all if it’s glory below:
