“Black metal Barbie” is not something we thought we would ever write, but here we are. As we were scrolling through the interwebs recently, we came across a video called “Black Metal Barbie ~ or ~ Daughters of Northern Darkness” – so of course we had to check it out.

The playfully comedic commercial was uploaded back in 2017 via the YouTube channel TEENBARF (with said commercial being created by Gwenmarie White). The commercial initially premiered at the California Institute of the Arts, on November 16th, 2017. The black metal Barbie trailer features Jackii Chun and Kelsey McKean playing with the dolls, as Kathleen Leary provides voiceover work.

The Barbie dolls are dressed in black metal attire and wear corpse paint – a backdrop of some Nordic woods appears behind where the girls are playing with the dolls. Along with a toy goat and church set, the voiceover work expresses that these dolls are so “cult” and “raw.” You can check out the trailer for these black metal Barbie dolls below:

Honestly, we wish these Barbies were a thing (we would totally order a few). What do you make of this fun black metal commercial? Per Gwenmarie White’s website:

Gwenmarie White is a Metalhead Valley Girl interested in what would happen if Laura Ashley listened to Cannibal Corpse, if the subway scene from Possession took place in Limited Too, if Lisa Frank ran a dogfighting ring, and if Bonne Bell made corpse paint. When it comes to creative content, she staunchly subscribes to Larry David’s ‘no hugging, no learning’ policy, and aims to produce work that is easy to consume/difficult to digest. Gwenmarie holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts from the University of Oregon and an M.F.A. in Art from the California Institute of the Arts.”

Speaking of heavy metal toys, have you heard about the Slayer minotaur getting its own action figure?
