At one point during a concert back in 2019, Metallica decided to invite a 13-year-old to come on stage and play drums alongside the band.
This show took place in Amsterdam, and towards the end of the band’s set, they invited a 13-year-old fan, whose name is Evan, to come on stage and perform alongside them. Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich stepped away from his drumkit, allowing the little dude to take it over.
In a video you will find below involving this live moment, singer James Hetfield asks the audience what song they want to hear; he then makes a joke about how “Lars shrunk,” acknowledging the young fan on the drumkit. Ulrich and that of Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett come over to welcome the little guy.
Eventually, the band kick off their song “Seek & Destroy,” with Evan playing on the drums. He doesn’t get to perform the entire song, but while he is playing on the kit, he does an excellent job.
You can find the video of 13-year-old Evan (13 years old at the time of this video’s recording) playing alongside Metallica and performing their song “Seek & Destroy” below.
What are your thoughts on Evan’s performance? We imagine such an opportunity to play alongside the legendary thrash band would inspire someone greatly to further pursue the art of heavy metal.
There are quite a few little kids who absolutely kick ass when it comes to playing metal. There is that of Caleb Hayes, a UK drummer who was featured on the Ellen DeGeneres Show after performing a crushing cover of a Slipknot song; Hayes also got a sweet shout out from band drummer Jay Weinberg.
There is also the kid who gives off some strong Corey Taylor vibes and who performed a sick cover of the band’s song “Psychosocial.” You can follow the links below to learn more about these stories.
