Back in April of 2020, rapper Post Malone took part in a special fundraising livestream event where he covered Nirvana songs. During a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the rapper reflected on this event and shared how he had reached out to the daughter of the late Kurt Cobain, Frances Bean Cobain, asking for her permission to cover Nirvana’s music.

This fundraising event was an at-home COVID-19 relief benefit show that featured Post Malone and Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker covering 15 Nirvana songs. The songs they covered are:

During a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Stern brings up that streaming event to Malone and says how he was blown away by his performance. Stern says that he heard that Malone went to Courtney Love to get her blessing to perform the Nirvana songs.

In response, Post Malone shares, “We went to Kurt’s daughter. It’s important to me because I love Kurt so much, and he’s been such an inspiration to me, musically. I could never want to offend anybody by trying to show support; so I just wanted to make sure everything was okay. And it was okay.”

That is incredibly cool of Malone to have reached out to Frances Bean Cobain. You can find video footage of Post Malone reflecting on that livestream event and covering those Nirvana songs below.
