Earlier today, news pertaining to the upcoming Megadeth album The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead! was announced. The band confirmed the release date for the album, as well as shared a new song titled “We’ll Be Back.”
In a brand new interview with Rolling Stone, band frontman Dave Mustaine went into some additional details about this record. He talks about several of the songs on this album, and shared a really interesting detail about how he came up with the title for this new Megadeth album.
Mustaine shared with Rolling Stone that he dreamt up the album’s title – The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead! – while thinking about the children’s rhyme “Ring Around the Rosie.” He shares:
“I wanted to add that [rhyme] into a song, like we did in ‘Go to Hell,’ where I said, ‘Now I lay me down to sleep,’ which oddly appeared on a Metallica song at the same time.” He adds, “That was weird.”
Mustaine continues:
“I thought, ‘Wow, the irony of something as innocuous as ‘Ring Around the Rosie’ being something so dark was interesting,’ and it made me curious about the Plague.”
Earlier in the interview, Mustaine is asked if he had any second thoughts about the album’s title (given the existence of COVID-19).
“No,” he states. “For me to let the occurrences in modern current history tell me what I’m going to do and what I’m not going to do is not going to sit well with me.”
