Via a recent interview with Brave Words, Testament guitarist Eric Peterson talked about ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo joining the band, and how he had refused to audition for the role of band drummer.
Peterson mentions Gene Hoglan’s departure from Testament before bringing up Lombardo joining Testament. At first, the band thought that Lombardo might be too busy to join the band. As Peterson recalls:
Peterson continues, sharing how things ended up working out to bring Lombardo on board. At point, he brings up calling Dave and asking him for some video of him performing some songs, to which Dave responded with, “I don’t need to do no fuckin’ video.”
“But, he ended up calling Chuck [Billy, vocalist] I think after the post hit, like a half-hour later. They talked a little bit, and Dave said, ‘Why don’t you talk to Eric.’ Chuck called me and says, ‘Guess who I just talked to?’ and I go, ‘I don’t know.’ He says, ‘Dave Lombardo’ and I’m like, ‘What? No way.’ Chuck says, ‘Yeah, he wants to do it.’
“I called him up, we talked, I ask if he can send a video of some songs and he goes, ‘I don’t need to do no fuckin’ video.’ I go, ‘Okay, you’re all good.’ I think when I ran it by our old drummer Louie and some other people… it’s the obvious choice. Even if there were some other drummers that were younger or maybe knew more songs…
“I think that would make people happy. We did a record with him – we already know that he is badass.”
That is pretty comical – “I don’t need to do no fuckin’ video.”
Dave Lombardo has been on the road with Testament as part of the band’s recent headlining tour. At some point we should be getting a new Testament album as well! Are you looking forward to new Testament music?
