Via an interview with Riff X ‘s Metal XS, Alice In Chains singer and guitarist William DuVall reflected on singers who have passed away prematurely in life, speaking to artists such as the late Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, the late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, the late Alice In Chains frontman Layne Staley, and more.

In reflecting on these artists who have passed away prematurely in life, William DuVall shared the following:

“Fame is tough. Fame is tough. It can take a toll on anyone, no matter how strong you might be, in some ways. It’s very taxing. Certainly a high price to pay for a massive gift that I think those bands cumulatively gave to rock culture. It’s very sad.”

William DuVall continues, sharing:

“You deal with whatever you’re dealing with as far as your public persona, but then you also are just a person underneath that. That’s where it gets challenging, because negotiating all of that – The extremes can be really jarring, between what you’re dealing with out in the world and what you’re dealing with in private; those extremes can be very jarring.”
