Rock Hall CEO Greg Harris recently shared that rapper Eminem is as “hard hitting” as the metal genre.
Let that one sit with you for a second.
This comment comes from a recent interview that Harris did with Audacy, where he was asked about the new Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductees. As of last week, it was officially announced that Judas Priest would be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Alongside the legendary heavy metal band, these other artists are also to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame:
Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, and Carly Simon.
And it is that of Marshall Mathers (legal name of Eminem), who Harris believes is just as “hard hitting” as metal. We probably bet that Harris likes to warm up with some Slayer before he puts on some Eminem.
In his interview with Audacy, Harris is asked about Judas Priest making their way into the Rock Hall; eventually, as the conversation continues, Harris is asked about rapper Eminem making the list. Here is what Harris had to say (via the conversation with Audacy):
“For a lot of years people asked about hip hop. He’s the 10th artist to be sort of categorized that way. But you listen to his music, it is as hard hitting and straight ahead as any metal song. It’s right there. It’s a chest punch with a message and with a power and with a rhythm and with a band. We’re thrilled he’s going in, [it is his] first year of eligibility, it’s a big statement.”
What are your thoughts on Harris’ comments comparing Eminem to metal? To be fair, we enjoy ourselves some Eminem – but is it a far stretch to say the rapper hits as hard as metal?
