During a recent conversation with Metal Hammer, Jaz Coleman, singer of the post-punk band Killing Joke, shared a story that is absolutely wild (and chilling to picture).

At one point during the interview, the Killing Joke frontman is asked about spending time in New Zealand; this prompts Coleman to talk about how lockdowns are handled differently in different countries. He then brings up how he was inside a hospital once located in Mexico, and how (per Coleman’s words) – he says, “One person’s fucking head exploded next to me.”

You can find everything that the Killing Joke singer had to say about this story below.

Per the Metal Hammer article:

[Metal Hammer]: Do you still spend lots of time in New Zealand?

[Jaz Coleman]: “I do, but I missed the lockdown there. Their lockdown’s pretty different to, say, a Mexican lockdown. In Mexico, there wasn’t really much of a lockdown. You don’t want to go to the hospital in Mexico; I nearly died in a hospital there [Jaz suffered a serious injury after falling out of a fishing boat in 2021]. One person’s fucking head exploded next to me.”

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Really?!

“Seriously. This Mexico City hospital, there were amazing people working there, but when I was brought in I was barely conscious, there were hundreds of people praying and people fighting. You’ve never seen anything like it. I was in a coma for half an hour after being admitted and then I was wrongly diagnosed, so I got even more ill.”

Holy shit that is wild! What do you make of the Killing Joke singer’s story?

Jaz Coleman formed the band back in 1979. At the time of this writing, the most recent studio album to come from the band is their 2015 album Pylon. At this time, the band have released fifteen studio albums.
