System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian has shared his thoughts on Machine Gun Kelly covering the System of a Down song “Aerials.” Machine Gun Kelly performed the cover on a recent episode of The Howard Stern Show.

While the band playing alongside Machine Gun Kelly do a decent job covering the song, MGK’s performance is… well, let’s say it is up to debate. Upon the video of MGK’s performance (which you can view below), System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian posted a clip of MGK’s performance on his personal Instagram account. Shavo didn’t write all that much with his caption, but another System of a Down member has chimed in on the Machine Gun Kelly performance.

System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian also posted on his personal Instagram account a video clip of the System of a Down cover. In the caption associated with his post, he wrote the following:

“I don’t know much about @machinegunkelly, it’s always an honor when someone covers your song, so I can’t hate the guy for giving it a shot.”

Regardless of your thoughts on Machine Gun Kelly, Malakian has a good point. At one point in the full video of the performance, Machine Gun Kelly does say how the voice of band vocalist, Serj Tankian, can’t be touched.

What do you think of MGK’s cover of the System of a Down song “Aerials”? Do you think he did an okay job? Do you agree with the sentiment from System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian? Would you be interested in hearing him cover other metal songs?

“Aerials” is part of the band’s 2001 studio album Toxicity.
