Rapper Kendrick Lamar has announced a new album today, so we thought it would be fun to revisit this incredible metal cover of his song “Humble,” performed by Indian metal band Bloodywood.

Bloodywood formed in 2016 and are from New Delhi; they originally started out as a parody band that would do metal covers of pop songs and upload them to YouTube. However, the band ended up shifting gears and started creating their own original music; in fact, they released a new album this year titled Rakshak.

One of those pop songs that Bloodywood ended up covering in the past is that of the Kendrick Lamar song “Humble.” The song is part of the rapper’s 2017 album DAMN.. If you are familiar with what “Humble” sounds like coming from Kendrick Lamar, you may not be ready for this Bloodywood cover, because it is heavy as hell!

Back in 2021, we had the opportunity to interview Bloodywood. We asked them about their album Rakshak, what the metal scene is like in India, their influences, and more. Here is a small preview of that interview; if you want to read the full interview, click on the link below.

What was it like growing up in the rock/metal scene in India? Are the scenes very different depending on region or city?

The scene in India is very small, maybe 10,000 people in a country of over a billion, but it’s a great one. Everybody knows each other and even though a lot of gigs have small audiences, there are special nights when over 200 of us will come out and create a special night for metal in India. We hope to play a part in growing the scene in the future and showcasing the talent over here for the rest of the world to see.
