Actor Jim Carrey isn’t just a funny guy, he’s also a metalhead! In a recent interview, Jim Carey shared a super cool story about how he first discovered Pantera‘s music and how he ended up meeting the band.

Jim Carey has to be one of the coolest Hollywood metalheads around. By this point in heavy metal history, a lot of folks already know about Carrey’s involvement with that of Cannibal Corpse; in case you don’t know though, here is a brief rundown:

The 1994 comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective is one of Jim Carrey’s biggest movies to date. At one point in the movie, Carrey’s character finds himself inside a music venue where a death metal band is performing – with said metal band being that of legends Cannibal Corpse. Around this time, the band would release their fourth studio album in a couple months, The Bleeding. You can find the scene with Jim Carrey and Cannibal Corpse below, the band playing their iconic single “Hammer Smashed Face.”

Recently though, actor Jim Carrey chimed in about some other heavy acts that he enjoys, as well as spoke to meeting the late Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell.

In an interview to promote his latest movie, video game adaption Sonic 2, Jim Carrey spoke to how he loves Machine Head and Deep Purple. The individual interviewing Carrey goes into how much he is a metalhead and how much he enjoys Pantera; he also brings up how, in Sonic 2, the Pantera single “Walk” makes an appearance. All of this prompts Carrey to share an awesome memory.

Jim Carrey begins talking about when he first heard Pantera; he was driving to a theatre when he first heard the band, and he says it hit him on such a “level of extreme stimulation.” Such a level that, in fact, he started laughing. When Carrey arrives at the hotel and he begins checking in… guess who is behind him in line? It’s Pantera!

That is wild as hell and an awesome coincidence! Jim Carrey goes into meeting Dimebag and how surreal the moment was.
