Folks… it happened – Machine Gun Kelly has gone metal. Okay he hasn’t “gone metal” – but there’s now footage of him performing a cover of a metal song.

As reported by Blabbermouth, rapper turned pop-punk artist Machine Gun Kelly made an appearance on The Howard Stern Show today and performed a cover of the System of a Down song “Aerials.”

System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian has shared a clip of MGK’s performance via his Instagram account; he didn’t say much in his caption. Although.. there is the hashtag “letsdothis.” Is that applauding Machine Gun Kelly, or hyping up the idea of a collab?

Machine Gun Kelly was recently interviewed by Billboard and spoke to how his previous studio album, Tickets To My Downfall, helped boost the rock genre’s popularity.

To Billboard, Machine Gun Kelly said that Tickets To My Downfall, “opened the lane back up for people to make money. It opened up these festivals. [Rock] needed a defibrillator. Who cares who gives it, just as long as that motherfucker doesn’t die?”

MGK just released a new studio album called Mainstream Sellout. Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker has overseen the production of the album (among a plethora of other producers).

The album features guest appearances by Lil Wayne, Willow, an interlude that includes comedian and SNL star Pete Davidson, and Bring Me The Horizon vocalist Oli Sykes.

You can find Shavo’s Instagram post below, as well as a video that features Machine Gun Kelly’s cover of “Aerials” by System of a Down.

Let us know what you think of MGK’s performance of this System of a Down song. Are you into it? Would you listen to MGK cover other metal songs? And if there’s something to Shavo’s “letsdothis,” what are your thoughts on a System of a Down/MGK collab?
