As fans of nu metal, it has been cool to see the likes of Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit making a return to pop culture. Last year, the band released a record titled Still Sucks; they performed at Lollapalooza in 2021, and were on tour with Spiritbox (but the tour was cut short due to the ongoing pandemic).
If you’re a fan of Limp Bizkit, then you might dig this super rare footage of frontman Fred Durst that has surfaced. As reported by Metal Hammer, the footage features a very young Fred Durst spitting behind the mic and dancing. The performance is part of a demo tape and features a DJ. The video is a brief 27 seconds, but trust us, it is pretty fun.
Among other nu metal acts like Korn and Deftones, Limp Bizkit entered the heavy music world with their 1997 album Three Dollar Bill, Y’all. The band formed in 1994, playing up until 2006, where the band would end up taking a hiatus. The band would come back together in 2009, releasing an album in 2011 titled Gold Cobra. It would be 10 years until Limp Bizkit would release 2021’s Still Sucks.
Fred Durst has remained as the band’s frontman since 1994. Around 2006, when Limp Bizkit went on hiatus, Durst started doing independent film work. He co-starred in Population 436 and made his directorial debut with The Education of Charlie Banks in 2007. The Longshots, another film of his, released in 2008, and then in 2019, he released The Fanatic (which features John Travolta).
With Limp Bizkit having released Still Sucks last year, and with the band getting back to touring, we could see the band blowing up again in the mainstream. Imagine an all-star nu metal tour where we could get the likes of Korn, Deftones, and Limp Bizkit on the same bill. Sick right?!
What are your thoughts on Still Sucks? What is your favorite Limp Bizkit record?
