Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French has chimed in on the infamous Oscars moment where actor Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock, saying, “it’s time for comedians to stop making fun of people’s appearance[s].”
To provide a recap of what took place at the Oscars this past Sunday:
During the Oscars, Chris Rock took to the stage and did what he does best and threw out some jokes. Among those jokes was one about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Jada has been struggling with alopecia, which causes hair loss, which is what Rock’s joke alluded too. Well, after making that joke, Will Smith went to the stage and slapped Chris Rock. Rock stood in disbelief and said, “Will Smith just slapped the shit out of me.”
Smith returned to his seat and yelled at Rock, “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!”
So yesterday, the Twisted Sister guitarist took to his Twitter and wrote the following regarding the incident:
“No one should ever hit another person like @willsmith did to @chrisrock . Among many issues this created at the #AcademyAwards2022 I think it’s time for comedians to stop making fun of peoples (especially woman) appearance it is degrading and unnecessary”.
So while the Twisted Sister guitarist calls out Smith’s behavior as well, he seems to be opposed to Rock’s joke. Among those other musicians who have also called out Will Smith is that of Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick, who called Smith’s actions an “ugly meltdown.”
Paul Stanley of Kiss was also not pleased with Smith’s actions and shared his thoughts on Twitter. You can find his tweets, along with that of the tweet from the Twisted Sister guitarist, below.

Wait… Chris Rock makes a bad joke about Jada Pinkett’s appearance. Will Smith walks onstage hits him in the face shouts out obscenities & later in tears accepts an Oscar saying “Love makes you do crazy things” to a STANDING OVATION?!? WTF Hollywood. That’s not WOKE. That’s WEAK

“Unacceptable Behavior”? What personal issues would embolden someone enough to walk onstage and ASSAULT another person? THEN how could an audience of people who believe themselves morally and socially conscious watch & spend the rest of the night cheering him? Sad and scary.
