The Foo Fighters drummer, Taylor Hawkins, has passed away. He was 50 years old. News of Hawkins’ passing comes from the band’s social media accounts. The band have provided this statement:

The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live with us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children, and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.

In a new update to this story, as reported by Blabbermouth, Colombian police believe the death of the Foo fighters drummer could be related to drugs. Hawkins was found dead in a hotel room at the Casa Medina in Bogota on Friday (March 25th).

A short time later, the Metropolitan Police Of Bogota released a statement that has been published by several news outlets in Colombia, including Bogota’s El Tiempo. In their statement, they say:

“According to those close to him, the death could be related to the consumption of narcotic substances.” But they cautioned: “The cause of death has yet to be established.”

Luis Carlos Velez, the director of local radio station La FM, said that a police officer who entered Hawkins’ hotel room had told prosecutors he saw a “cocaine-like” white powder. Colombian authorities also “found an empty beer can, an opened bottle of vodka, a Coca-Cola bottle and some other articles which are being analyzed,” he said. But he added that “drug use has not been confirmed yet.”

The Foo Fighters drummer had reportedly complained about chest pains earlier in the day before his passing.
