Earlier this month, Ukrainian metal act Jinjer placed a hold on their North American tour plans in order to assist their country. Since Russia began their invasion on Ukraine, which began on February 24th, Jinjer have been vocal about the conflict taking place within the country.
Jinjer were supposed to be part of the North American Slipknot tour, but have exited the tour and been replaced with that of Wage War. In an effort to help their country, the band announced a charity campaign where they would be selling specially designed t-shirts; the proceeds of these sales would go towards charities. Regarding this campaign, band bassist Eugene Abdukhanov shared the following:
“Thank you all for your concerned messages and prayers sent to us over the last week, we may not answer but we are reading them and they mean the world to us. As you know, there is war raging through the streets and cities of Ukraine right now. Many people have little or no food or water and are very afraid of what tomorrow may bring. Together with Napalm Records, we’re releasing two new T-Shirt designs to raise funds to be donated to various charities throughout Ukraine to help with medical and food supplies, water and so on. If you cannot donate then please share this or any news related to what’s really happening here. Each sale may save somebody’s life in Ukraine. Thank you.”
Now, in a new update via the Jinjer Facebook page, the band have shared that, thanks to their fans, they’ve raised 130.000€ (which would equate to $140,000). Per the social media post, the band wrote:
“Dear friends! Over 11,000 Donation Tee‘s sold and 130.000€ raised in the last few weeks! Your support will not only help so many people in need but sends a much needed positive sign that they are not alone.
“The first donations totaling 10K have already been sent to a bomb shelter in Kyiv housing and protecting 300 people, and a Slovakian humanitarian convoy collecting urgent medical supplies, food and clothing to be delivered Uzhgorod for refugees from the Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions who have been hit hard since the war started.
“More updates on where and who your donations have helped will be posted soon!
“On behalf of the entire band, crew, label and all of Ukraine – WE THANK YOU!
“For those of you that have not grabbed a shirt yet, both designs are available here: https://linktr.ee/JinjerOfficialMERCH”
It’s awesome to see metalheads taking part in such a good cause and these donations are extremely impressive! There’s still plenty of time if you want to grab your specially designed t-shirt from Jinjer as well!
