It goes without saying that one of the most anticipated metal albums of this year is Immutable by Meshuggah. For three and a half decades, Meshuggah have been delivering profoundly crushing, technically fascinating music. They aren’t just a band that has inspired other acts – they’ve forever changed heavy music.

With the announcement of Immutable last month, the band also released the first single off the album, “The Abysmal Eye,” and now there is a music video for it. And in typical Meshuggah fashion – it’s trippy as hell!

People run through a desert. Cloaked beings gather in an eldritch-looking chamber. A mutation of some sort – a face screaming outward – is shown. What does all this mean? You’ll need to find that out for yourself in the music video below.

Pertaining to the album’s title, band guitarist Mårten Hagström shared the following:

“The title fits perfectly for where we are as a band. We’re older now. Most of us are in our fifties now, and we’ve settled into who we are. Even though we’ve been experimenting all along, I also think we’ve been the same since day one. The way we approach things and why we still make new albums, and why we still sound the way we do, it’s immutable. Humanity is immutable, too. We commit the same mistakes over and over. And we are immutable. We do what we do, and we don’t change.”

Immutable will be released April 1st, it is the follow up to 2016’s The Violent Sleep of Reason. Meshuggah will be heading out on a North American tour in the near future – you can find all the dates and locations below.
