The music of Tool is remarkably intricate, offering incredible technicality through songwriting and performance. Hell, all you got to do is check out what Danny Carey can do on the drums to get an idea of what Tool is capable of creating. That technical prowess makes Tool one hell of a tough band to cover, but time and time again, people love to step up to the challenge! We’ve seen the likes of talented Weissenborn slide guitarist Dan Dubuque cover the band’s song “Pneuma,” and now there’s a classical cover of Tool’s “Forty Six & 2.”

An official music video has been released by Vitamin String Quartet that features the group covering the iconic Tool song from the band’s 1996 album, Ænima. Per the quartet’s YouTube channel:

“Active since 1999, Vitamin String Quartet (VSQ) has helped establish classical crossover as a force in contemporary music. One of the most popular contemporary string ensembles in the world, VSQ has ‘reached a mainstream, global audience’ (Variety).

VSQ have produced over 300 releases of string renditions of an eclectic mix of artists, including their longstanding VSQ Performs the Hits series. The quartet also performs the work of notable artists on a full-album basis such as Lana Del Rey, Björk, Sigur Ros, and the music of Studio Ghibli.”

Along with checking out Vitamin String Quartet’s performance of “Forty Six & 2” below, you can also find their cover of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.”
