Chile’s metalhead president loves Deftones, Korn, Nine Inch Nails and more

Chile's metalhead president

Metalhead politicians are quite the anomaly. To be fair, politicians & metal don’t really go to together, in the same way that Danzig doesn’t really like sunlight or the beach.

Sure, there was the random revelation that recent US presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke was once a young punk rocker in a band with At The Drive-In & Mars Volta mastermind Cedric Bixler-Zavala. Besides that, though, it’s been a long while since we’ve heard of any prominent political figure loving aggressive-leaning music, underground or mainstream.

So when we saw a story from the fine folks at Louder that Chile’s metalhead president, Gabriel Boric, flaunts his love for metal all over the internet, we got a bit curious. As Louder astutely pointed out, the recent president-elect loves himself some Tool, Deftones, Faith No More, Korn & more.

Boric is clearly proud to be able to use his now global pedestal to wave his metalhead flag.

He wore a Deftones White Pony hat on a nationally televised TV interview and regularly posts photos from his metal-leaning CD and cassette collection to his 1.2 million Instagram followers.

Whether it’s flaunting his Deluxe Edition CD of The Downward Spiral or old-school tape of Korn’s Life is Peachy, the guy essentially screams regularly from the rooftops that he loves the heavy shit.

Furthermore, in conversation with Radio Los 40, he even called out his favorite Tool song, stating:

“And if I had to pick one of my favorite Tool tracks, I’d put the album’s namesake, Aenema. It is a bit catastrophic and destructive, but it helps to have perspective of where we are.” As Louder pointed out, Boric is often referred to now as “the most powerful Tool fan in the world,” which is kind of bad ass if we’re being honest.

Here’s a selection of Boric’s public displays of affection for metal music online below. Horns to Chile’s metalhead president:
