There are plenty of pretty metal Christmas carols out there, but very few of them are pop tunes. The truth is that pop Christmas songs are often really, really bad, and are basically typical radio songs but with jingle bells and references to Santa added. Arguably the king of these is Wham!’s “Last Christmas,” which literally has nothing to do with Christmas other than the word ‘Christmas” in the chorus. But now, one YouTuber has reimagined the track as a Rammstein song, and suffice it to say it’s a vast improvement.
The video comes from Anthony Vincent, the YouTuber best known for doing pop songs in the style of 25 different metal bands. This cover is an extension of a video he just did, where he performs “Last Christmas” in several different styles. But not only did Anthony give the annoying holiday track a Rammstinian vibe, he also accurately translated George Michael’s lyrics into German, giving this track the traditional — if sinister — air of Christmas in the old country.
