Jesus Piece Drummer to Play with Charli XCX on ‘SNL’ After Drum Cam Footage Goes Viral

Published on:

We’re huge fans of Philly hardcore act Jesus Piece, whose 2018 album Only Self absolutely blew our fuckin’ minds. So we’re stoked to find out that the band’s drummer Luis Aponte was chosen to accompany pop star Charli XCX during her upcoming performance on Saturday Night Live after his drum cam footage goes viral.

For those of you who don’t know or remember, Charli XCX is probably most recognizable in America for singing the chorus of Iggy Azalea’s massive 2014 summer song “Fancy.” She also has many massive hits of her own, but none so pervasive in the US as her work on that track. She’s the one in the Britney Murphy outfits in this video:

As reported by Metal Injection, Luis caught the attention of the pop star’s eye when drum cam footage shot by legendary videographer Sunny Singh (known to most of the metal world as hate5six) at the Forrest Lodge VFW Hall and Club in Sellersville, PA. Take a look at the video below:

Singh was stoked to learn of this development, tweeting, “holy FUCK this is insane. The drum cam I posted of @lu2000k from @JesusPieceHC a few months ago caught so much momentum that @charli_xcx ‘s people saw it and invited him to drum on @nbcsnl with her.

“Luis deserves this opportunity so much. You’re gonna kill it brother <3”

Congratulations to Luis for the massive win! We hope this leads to countless opportunities in which the world can hear your crushing, enthusiastic beats!

You can watch Luis play with Charli XCX this Saturday, December 18, on Saturday Night Live, to be hosted by Paul Rudd. Meanwhile, European fans can catch the band at one of their upcoming tour dates:
