Fuming Mouth’s Mark Whelan Diagnosed With Leukemia, GoFundMe Started

Published on:

In the past couple of years, Fuming Mouth have become a respected mainstay in the extreme metal underground. The band’s 2019 full-length debut The Grand Descent was a ferocious, powerful mixture of metal and hardcore that proved as unpredictably catchy and enjoyable as it was totally crushing. But now, frontman Mark Whelan has revealed that he’s been diagnosed with cancer, and a GoFundMe has been started to help him.

Yesterday, Mark posted the following message on Instagram: “Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago. I have acute myeloid leukemia (AML). A type of cancer that is treatable. We’ve already begun the treatment and are working to beat this every day. It will surely be a hard road but I’m ready to face it. Please feel free to reach out, write, or DM any of the fuming mouth pages while I’m going through this. Any kind of love and support is welcome.

“We’ve also created a gofundme to help with expenses. Please feel free to check out the link in our bio to read more and support. Thank you. We’ll keep you updated on the progress as much as possible.”

Many bands have come out earnestly asking their fans for support, including Texan death metal up-and-comers Creeping Death, who tweeted, “Mark is one of our best friends and favorite people. Please take the time to support his go fund me below”

If you’re able to and can spare a few bones, we at The Pit ask that you please help fund Mark’s road to recovery. With our help, one of the brightest talents in metal and hardcore can get a chance at recovery and go back to making music that sounds like getting the teeth knocked out of our souls.
