It’s been a crazy couple of years for hair metal legends Mötley Crüe. First, the band were forced to reschedule their reunion tour to 2022 due to COVID issues. Now, it’s been revealed that the band have sold their entire catalog to the tune of $150 million.
According to Variety, the Crüe have sold their entire four-decade catalog of music to BMG for a whopping $150 million. This includes the band’s rights to their full-length albums, from 1981’s Too Fast for Love to 2008’s Saints of Los Angeles, along with the many compilations and live albums in between.
“It feels amazing to be collaborating with our new partners at BMG,” say the band. “Their extensive track record of success in rock made them the perfect home to continue preserving and growing our musical legacy, ensuring we always stay at the top.”
“This is more than just a significant transaction,” says BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch. It’s a new chapter for an extraordinary catalog. Few bands understand the myth and the magic of rock like Mötley Crüe do. In an increasingly competitive rights acquisition market, artists need to be convinced that a buyer will do the right thing with their work. I am delighted that Mötley Crüe have decided BMG will be the best custodians of their musical career.”
Congrats to Mötley Crüe on the $35 million apiece payday.
