You’d be hard-pressed to think of a video game franchise as utterly metal as Playstation’s infamous God of War. The saga of Kratos follows him across countless ancient worlds, fighting various pantheons of gods and eventually becoming one himself. Now, the character dwells among perhaps the most metal pantheon of all, the Norse deities, and in his latest adventure, God of War: Ragnarok, will attempt to stop the long-foretold war of the gods that culminates in the end of the world. Now, a gameplay trailer for the game has been released, and fuck, man, why go to the movies when you can play this game?
As you’ll see in the mixture of gameplay footage and cinematic cut scenes below, God of War: Ragnarok is a lush, engaging world to immerse one’s self in. Kratos has come a long way from killing the Hydra as a tiny playable character atop a ship; now, he’s a fully-detailed barbarian at every turn. Not only are the graphics some of the most beautiful that any gamer has ever seen, but the storyline that they follow — in which Kratos and his son Atreus (who, in fact, is the mischief god Loki) are forced to look for the long-lost Norse god of war Tyr in order to hopefully prevent the world from dying in a battle of gods and monsters — is incredibly powerful and human. There are also plenty of classic characters showing up throughout the story, including a hinted battle between Kratos and the god of thunder himself, Thor. All this plus mindblowing set and character design make this the kind of game that any headbanger worth his salt should give themselves over to.
