Last month, the metal world cocked an eyebrow when pop star Ed Sheeran revealed he’d been a big fan of Slipknot and Cradle of Filth growing up — and that he’d be down to make a death metal album. Now, Cradle of Filth frontman Dani Filth has revealed that the he and Sheeran have been trading e-mails — and that he’s not at all against the idea of a collaboration.

“I’ve actually been emailing with him,” Filth told Kerrang! Radio, quickly adding, “No no, it’s true! He actually touched base with me. I’ve been invited up to his place. Well, he said he could come down to mine, but I pointed out to him that I don’t own my own bar or village, and it’d be better if I went there. He said he’d do anything. Quite literally. He said he’s a massive fan. He seems like a genuinely very nice guy actually.

“I think the Ed Sheeran collaboration would be great fun,” continued the satanic black metaller. “I think it’d be great if we did it for charity because at least it would bring a bit of credibility to it. Because obviously to his public, it’d be like ‘Oh my god, he’s got this weird comical guy’, and to my public, it’d be like ‘Oh my god, this is a bit weird, isn’t it?’ But I think that sort of thing, nowadays, works.”

So there you have it, folks: what seemed like a gag when it came to light a month ago might actually become one of the most uncommon collaborations of the year. Whether or not Sheeran needs to be fitted for fake fangs and a leather-strap jumpsuit before collaborating with Cradle of Filth remains to be seen.
