Back in June, Slipknot percussionist Shawn “Clown” Carahan said in an interview that the band were planning to leave longtime record lable Roadrunner Records after the release of the album they’d recorded in quarantine. The thing is, with all due respect to him, Clown is known to go on some stream-of-consciousness rants sometimes, and any journalist who’s ever interviewed him (this one included) wondered if perhaps he’d misspoken, or if his statement wasn’t worded correctly. Now, however, Crahan has clarified that the band will indeed be leaving their label after this album.
“What I can tell you right now is that we are getting off of our record label,” Clown told Forbes. “This is a very fascinating time in my life because I’ve lost both of my parents and if they were alive my dad would be so excited that I have fulfilled a contract. It’s not about what I’m going to do afterwards, it’s that I gave my word, I extended my hand and my penmanship and I’m literally getting off of something that I had agreed I can get off of.”
When the interviewer asks, for clarification, if this means that Slipknot’s next record would be their last on Roadrunner, Crahan said, “Yes sir, seven albums, no greatest hits, no best of, no live albums, straight up rock n’ roll. That’s what we’ve given.”
