It’s Friday, which means two things: giving the week the finger and new music! Tune in every Friday for The Pit’s round-up of new metal releases, from singalong hard rock to pus-drenched underground death metal. Keep those ears bleeding!

Fulci, Exhumed Information (Time to Kill Records)

For fans of: Mortician, Undergang, Witch Vomit

Standout track: “Funeral”

God damn, do Fulci scratch our death metal itch something hard. The Italian trio’s brand of horror-obsessed chugs always hit our morbid sweet spot, and their incorporation of synths and samples this time around only adds to their ghoulish appeal. Fans who can’t stand a little sugar in their coffee might argue that this isn’t pure death metal enough; the rest of us will have a ball with this kickass album. Devour the living!

Godslave, Positive Aggressive (Metalville Records)

For fans of: Overkill, Warfect, Tankard

Standout track: “Flap of a Wing”

Wait a second, these guys rule! Where have they been? We weren’t as familiar with Germany’s Godslave before the release of this record, but we’ll remember them from here on out. The band go hard in some ultra-melodic fest-thrash in the style of latter-day Overkill, and it works very well for them. If you’re looking for a solid, enjoyable riff-fest to put on and play air guitar to, these dudes are here for you.

Crypt Monarch, The Necronaut (Electric Valley Records)

For fans of: Electric Wizard, Sleep, Church of Misery

Standout track: “Morning Star Through Skull”

Gotta love a doom album that opens with a 15-minute-plus track called “Morning Star Through Skull.” Crypt Monarch play purp-doom, without too much nuance or dynamic shift getting in the way of the chugs. It’s super long-form, too, with the longest of the three songs on the album clocking in at just over ten minutes. All of which is a nice way of saying that this album is rad, but is much radder if you got high as the Dickens before/while you listen to it.

Attila, Closure (Self-released, we think?)

For fans of: Chelsea Grin, Emmure, latter-day Slipknot

Standout track: “Empty Clip”

Once iconoclasts within the metal scene, Attila appear to have settled into just doing what they do despite a lack of buttons to push. Closure still attempts to pick fights, but seems to do so in a room where everyone agrees with Chris Fronzak. Lyrics about naked bitches dancing and not giving a fuck will undoubtedly have a certain type of fan throwing gun-fingers in the air. The Marilyn Manson reference is, of course, terribly ill-timed.

Other crushers:

  • Exil, Warning (Armageddon Label)
  • Sleep Walker, Alias (UNFD)
  • Crescent, Carving the Fires of Akhet (Listenable Records)

Want to check out other great new metal releases we’ve spotlighted recently? Good. Here you go.
