If you’re not yet familiar with King Woman, you gotta get on that. The one-woman project of Kris Esfandiari brings together elements of doom, sludge, death metal and goth to create a sonic profile that’s both crushing and eerily sensual. Now, King Woman has released the second track from her upcoming album Celestial Blues, titled “Psychic Wound,” via an incredibly NSFW music video.

If we’re being perfectly honest, the NSFW tag on “Psychic Wound” doesn’t stem from any blatant nudity or gore. Sure, there’s a lot of blood, and women caressing each other while covered in it, and Esfandiari does spend much of the video writhing on a slab in vinyl lingerie, chaps, and fangs. Maybe it’s more the tone of the video that warrants the label — there’s a mixture of sexiness and panic to both the track and the footage that’s feels vulgar and scandalous to behold. In that respect, Esfandiari has pulled off what so many dark artists wish they could — quickening the pulses of onlookers with the power of suggestion alone.

“‘Psychic Wound’ is about paying the price for eating forbidden fruit,” explains Esfandiari. “When desire turns into obsession it can keep you longer than you intended to stay and nearly destroy your sanity.”
