There is one accomplishment within the world of heavy music that stands above all others: being featured as a question on Jeopardy! If your name is used to elicit an answer in the form of a question, then you know you’ve really hit the big time. Now, two heavy metal giants have been entered the Halls of Trebek: speed metal forefathers Motörhead and groove metal favorites Pantera, who were featured in a Jeopardy! question earlier in the week.

The category in question was ‘Musical Genres,’ and with current guest host Mayim Bialik asking, “Pantera’s Vulgar Display of Power and Motörhead’s No Remorse made Rolling Stone’s Top 100 albums of this genre.” To which a contestant responded, “What is metal?” Bialik corrected the contestant with “Heavy metal,” though we like the fact that he just said ‘metal.’ We believe the answer, “Fuckin’ METAL, Mayim! You know what I’m talking about!” would have also been an appropriate response.

Congrats on Pantera and Motörhead for being given this incredible moment in their lives. We hope Alex Trebek is smiling down from Heaven, though there’s also a solid chance he’s just shaking his head and thinking, This used to be a show of quality…

Pantera and Motörhead aren’t the only heavy music icons to be recently featured on Jeopardy! Back in November of 2019, death metal icons Obituary and Morbid Angel made it onto the show, proving you can be public figures even if you make music that sounds like trenchfoot.

“Morbid Angel and Obituary are popular bands in this genre,” asked the late Alex Trebek.

“What is death metal?” said Dhruv Gaur, the 2018 college champion, who ended his correct response with a shrug that seemed to say, Whatever, I have an older brother, okay?
