With the return of live shows comes the return of one of metal’s most important live bands: Metallica. Love ’em or hate ’em, the four horsemen of Bay Area thrash put on the kind of massive live spectacle that needs to be seen to be believed. Now, European fans can rejoice, as Metallica have just announced a series of festival dates across Europe for 2022.
As reported by Metal Hammer, Metallica will hit the road next year as part of what they’re calling ‘The Return of the European Summer Vacation’ tour. The shows kick off with Denmark’s infamous Copenhell Festival and continue across the continent into early July. Fingers crossed that there are more dates to follow, and here’s hoping that at some point on the tour fans get to hear the track that Metallica are working on with Elton John — though one wonders if this is a festival-premiere kind of track, and if Elton at the grand piano will be welcome onstage at Copenhell.
“We have waited far too long to say these words – we’re getting back out there and are finally announcing our return to Europe in 2022!” wrote the band in a statement. “Needless to say, we cannot wait to see all of you once again as our European ’Tallica Family will finally have a chance to reunite in June and July of next year.
“We can’t wait to once again take the stage as part of the time-honored tradition of summer music festivals and we’re excited to see some of our friends, both new and old, at Copenhell, Pinkpop, Firenze Rocks, Prague Rocks, Rock Werchter, Mad Cool, and NOS Alive.”
Catch the biggest metal band of all time at one of the following dates:
6/15 – Copenhell, Copenhagen, Denmark
6/17 – Firenze Rocks, Florence, Italy
6/19 – Prague Rocks, Prague, Czech Republic
6/22 – Rock Werchter, Werchter, Belgium
7/1 – Mad Cool, Madrid, Spain
7/6 – NOS Alive, Lisbon, Portugal
