Last month saw French experimental face-melters Gojira release Fortitude, their most ambitious and accessible album thus far. Now, it appears this level of sonic evolution has paid off for the band, who have reached a new plateau in terms of sales and chart placement.
As reported by Loudwire, Gojira’s Fortitude debuted at #12 on the Billboard 200, as compared to 2016’s Magma which debuted at #24 (it should also be noted that audio and video streaming are factored into the Top 200, which undoubtedly kept Fortitude from ranking higher). Sales-wise, though, Fortitude sold 27,372 units in the U.S. (24,104 pure sales), bringing Gojira to #1 on the Top Album Sales chart.
Meanwhile, Fortitude also landed at #1 on the Current Rock Albums and Current Hard Music Albums charts, and #2 on the Current Internet Albums and LP Vinyl Albums charts. The record also gave the band their highest-charting release ever in their native France, landing them at #2.
Conrats to Gojira for this massive win!
