Earlier this month, we were saddened to announced that Tom Hunting, drummer for thrash metal legends Exodus, had been diagnosed with a rare gastric tumor. Like many musicians in need of medical assistance, Tom launched a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for his treatment, with a $50,000 goal. Now, not only has that goal been met, but it’s also been impressively surpassed.

Tom’s GoFundMe campaign, organized by Exodus guitarist Gary Holt, hit the $80,000 mark in less than a week. The campaign currently has approximately $80,800 donated so far, and continues to climb. Tom expressed his gratitude to everyone who donated to the cause via a message posted to Gary Holt’s Instagram account.

“Hey all. Tom from Exodus here,” said Tom, as transcribed by Blabbermouth. “Just checking in. It’s April 26th. I’m in Northern California, where we just had six inches of snow fall last night. A little [late Exodus frontman Paul] Baloff birthday snow action.

“Anyways, I just wanted to say thank you, everyone. I’m overcome with gratitude and emotion for the donations and all the love and support. I’m doing okay. I had a treatment a couple of weeks ago. I’m going in for another treatment on Wednesday. So far so good. It’s kind of early in the fight. But I feel like I’m gonna crush this like a bug.

“Anyways, thanks again, everyone. I love you guys. And we’ll see you soon. Cheers.”

Congrats to Tom on the success of his campaign, and much luck to him moving forward with his treatment! We hope that he’s fully on the mend by the time Exodus drop their new album, Persona Non Grata, later this year, so we can come out, drink too much, and lose our minds to “Blacklist” in person.
