At The Gates Announce New Album ‘The Nightmare of Being’

Published on:

Back in November, we learned that Swedish melodeath pioneers At The Gates were in the studio and preparing to release a new album in 2021. Now, the Gothenburg band have revealed the full details of that record, including a release date.

At The Gates’ newest release will be called The Nightmare of Being, and is set to hit shelves and streaming services on July 2nd via Century Media Records. You can check out the full cover art and tracklisting for the album below.

The overall theme deals with the topic of pessimism, and I have been diving deep down in pessimistic philosophers,” said frontman Tomas Lindberg in regards to The Nightmare of Being‘s general themes and conceptual arc. “Trying to understand this way of looking at the world. It is not a negative album, more a gateway into new ideas for me personally, trying out different perspectives. You could call the album an introduction to pessimism as a concept, I guess. It is a very dark album, but not negative…It still sounds like At The Gates, 100 percent. It is just more of everything.”
