With the Christmas holidays over, most metalheads are back to doing what they love the most: counting down to Halloween. Not only does All Hallows’ Eve 2021 promise to be more social and epic than last year’s downtuned version, it also comes with Halloween Kills, the sequel to 2018’s highly successful revival of the Halloween franchise. Now, the first image from the film has been released — and thankfully, it features everyone’s favorite slasher Michael Myers front and center.

As you can see in the image below, published exclusively by Total Film and posted by Bloody Disgusting, Michael has returned in classic form, kitchen knife and all. Though he looks a little crispy from the fiery ending of 2018’s Halloween, he’s still the Shape without question (after all, as any Halloween fan knows, you can’t kill the Boogeyman). More importantly, the shadowy nature of the shot shows that as in the last film, director David Gordon Green will up the atmosphere and menace of Michael Myers. So much of the power of John Carpenter’s 1978 original stems from Michael being more menacing in his very pressence than, say, Jason Voorhees or Freddy Kruger.

“It’s one thing to be afraid of the Boogeyman, to have someone who might be in the closet, under the bed, creeping around your house,” says Gordon Green of the new movie, which he’s previously promised will have “twice the thrills and ten times the kills.” “But what we wanted to explore next was confusion, misinformation, and paranoia. What happens when fear goes viral? You can’t just stick your head under the covers any more.”

Halloween Kills is currently scheduled for October 15th, 2021 — but it’s worth noting that it’ll only be available in theaters, so get your masks ready. You know Michael will have his on.
