In the past couple of years, System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian has been working on several projects that have unfortunately been delayed for various (but obvious) reasons. In 2019, Serj outlined Truth to Power, a documentary that would apparently be about his own musical journey. Then, earlier this year, he announced a new solo EP titled Elasticity that also had to be delayed. But in a recent interview, Serj revealed that both of these projects will see the light of day in 2021.
In an interview with Rolling Stone which you can watch below, Serj says that the Elasticity EP will now see the light of day in February 2021.
“I decided to finish [the songs on the EP] myself and release them,” Tankian notes. “And they are really interesting and beautiful songs…going from really heavy type of System-esque type of music to really beautiful, ballady, including pianos and string arrangements and stuff like that. So, it’s quite diverse for just five songs. And thematically, it’s quite diverse as well — a song about terrorism; a song about protests in Armenia years ago; a song about my son Rumi, kind of also cut with the poet Rumi, in a way — it’s an homage to the poet Rumi and his namesake, basically, in a way. And a few other pieces. So it’s kind of all around the place, as everything I do is.”
He also says that Truth to Power will see release on February 19th, 2021, and apparently “includes a lot of stuff about my youth, my motivations, what made me an activist and how I ended up in the revolution in Armenia in 2018…It’s quite interesting as a music doc.”
Keep an eye out for Serj’s Elasticity EP and Truth to Power in early 2021. In the meantime, you can watch his interview with Rolling Stone below:
