Corey Taylor: Slipknot Are “Thinking About Kind Of Putting Another Album Out Maybe” In 2021

After the huge success of last year’s We Are Not Your Kind and the COVID-related death of live music, one might assume that Slipknot would take a second to step out of the spotlight and focus on personal endeavors before releasing another studio album. However, according to a new interview with frontman Corey Taylor, the Iowan nine-piece are already considering the option of putting out a new record in 2021 — though he includes a hard emphasis on considering.

Speaking to Scott Bowling’s Good Company, Corey said, “The plan right now with Slipknot is to try and a) finish up the touring next year, and b) we’re thinking about kind of putting another album out maybe next year. But I don’t know. I don’t know what the plan is yet. I just know that we all kind of feel like there’s unfinished business and we wanna finish that out before we do anything. But I know that we were talking about doing it, ’cause we only have one album left on our contract [with our record label].”

On the one hand, it’s pretty obvious that Taylor is not committing to anything by couching his statement in a lot of kind-of-sort-of-maybe language. That said, only earlier this month Shawn “Clown” Crahan said the band have used the downtime of quarantine to work on new material.

In a livestream to promote the sale of their No. 9 Iowa Whiskey, percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan revealed that the quiet downtime of quarantine may not have been so quiet for Slipknot, as the band have been using it to work on music.

“We’re taking this time to write some new music. So for the last week, we’ve been just having a good time, eating a lot of food and writing good music. So we’re having a good time.

“Since everybody’s taken a lot of time off, we thought we’d utilize it by getting together and do what we probably do best, which is write music.”

“So it’s been good, because there’s no pressure. It’s not like we have to. We’re doing it ’cause we want to. And it’s just been a blessing, because boredom can set in. And I know all of us in the world are going crazy, so we’re really lucky to be able to be together and do what we love most.”
